Year 6 Celebration Day at Manuka Pool
Manuka Pool
Students are to arrive at school by 8:35 am. The classroom teacher will be marking the roll and the Year 6 Cohort will depart School at 9:00am. We are walking to Manuka Pool and anticipate arriving at 9:30 am.
Prior to students entering the pool, students will take part in a swim assessment to ensure everyone's safety in the water. The goal is to evaluate the basic swimming abilities required for staying safe in a confined water area where the distance to support is greater than 5 meters. Students who haven't completed the test will be considered as "nonswimmers."
The term "nonswimmer" is neutral and refers to anyone who may be learning to swim or hasn't yet acquired the skills to move confidently beyond shallow water. It also includes those who haven't taken the test or have chosen not to participate, understanding the limitations of certain activities associated with this classification.
To undergo the swim assessment, participants will enter the water without using the steps, swim 15 meters on the surface, tread water or float on their back briefly, continue swimming for another 15 meters, pause again to tread water or float on their back, and finally, exit the pool without using the steps; any stroke can be used. The breaks during the test ensure swimmers can regain composure and breathe safely if their swimming is interrupted.
Students will wear a wristband once they have completed the swim assessment to indicate they are competent to swim in the main pool.
If students are not wanting to participate in a swim assessment they will only be allowed in the toddler pool and will wear a different coloured wristband to the students in the main pool. This is to allow staff to easily identify what pools students are permitted to be in.
Please note, that by providing permission for your child to attend Celebration Day, you are consenting to your child participating in the swim assessment.
We will be supplying the students with a pizza lunch from Domino's, they have already selected what pizza they would like.
The cohort will be leaving Manuka Pool to walk back to CGS at 2:00 pm, with an anticipated arrival time of 3:00 pm.
Students are to wear: CGS PE uniform
What to bring: suncream, hat, sun rash shirt for swimming, swimmers, towel, water bottle, snacks, book, cards, soccer ball etc.
