Service Learning : Weeding Year 5 and 6

Red Hill Nature Reserve

Years 5 and 6 will walk to Red Hill Nature Reserve and split into two groups to assist weed control with the Red Hill Regenerators. The students will capture their experience with photos and videos to explaining their processes.
Lesson 2: Identifying and Removing Weeds Safely
Students will:
- learn how to identify common weeds found on Red Hill
- identify and name at least three common weeds present on Red Hill
- understand safe and effective techniques for removing weeds
- demonstrate correct weed removal techniques, ensuring they do not cause harm to themselves or the environment
- develop an appreciation for the importance of personal safety and environmental protection during weed removal
- explain why it is essential to wear protective gear and avoid disturbing surrounding vegetation while removing weeds
