As our children commence their first years of formal schooling, it is important we establish a foundation of effective practices both at home and at School to set children up for success in literacy. CGS prides itself on using a multifaceted, evidence-based approach to developing our students’ literacy skills. This includes:
• InitiaLit (K-2) for phonics instruction
• Teaching writing using authentic mentor texts as scaffolds
• Our K-2 Morning Reading programme – commencing in Term 2
• Regular Home Reading – commencing in Term 2
We invite all parents of Kindergarten children to attend our Literacy Information Session during Week 9. This will be an opportunity to hear about our instructional approaches, receive guidance on how to support your child’s learning at home, and ask questions on any of the above.
