CBCA Book Week 2020 "Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”
Everyone will be pleased to know that Book Week will be celebrated again this year, although the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has delayed the official winning book announcements until Week 2 Term 4 (17-23 October) partly due to COVID-19 situation.
Book Week will be celebrated a little differently from previous years. Literature selected from the 2020 Shortlist and Notables will spark inspiration and promote Australian authors and illustrators. Books will be enjoyed and shared during library sessions and as part of each year level's Unit of Inquiry focus.
To highlight the theme of Book Week, which is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds, Preschool – Year 6 students will have the opportunity to create a curious creature based on the ideas explored during Science Week. Using found and recyclable materials, students can design an imaginative creature or a realistic creature to be displayed either at home or at school.
Some students may choose to create a creature found in the depths of ocean whilst others might want to heighten awareness of endangered curious animals. In your role as a scientist, please label your curious creature and describe its habitat.
Your curious creatures can be delivered to their Primary School Library habitat from now until Book Week.
