Adventure Club: Term 1 overnight camp

Namadgi National Park

Dear Parents,

The aim of this adventure is to provide children and their parents the opportunity to experience an overnight bush walk in the company of outdoor education staff. A parent or guardian must accompany their child.

Below is a summary of the information for the overnight hike at Orroral Valley Campground, Namadgi National Park.

 

Saturday 24 March

·       Meet at the Namadgi National Park Headquarters 10am.

·       Drive to Orroral Valley Campground. Final Gear Check, organisation and lunch

·       Drive further up the valley. Leave cars and walk to our riverside campsite.

·       Walk 2-3km approximately

·       Set up camp

·       Relax and explore the campsite, cook dinner using stoves and fire

·       Enjoy toasting marshmallows on the fire.

Sunday 25 March

·       Breakfast and pack up camp site

·       Walk back to cars

·       Return borrowed gear

·       Depart for home after lunch

To confirm a place on this adventure, please return the participation form below and medical form for all participants including adults.

ALL accompanying adults must have a WWVP (Working with Vulnerable People) card. This must be sighted prior to departure. To obtain a card go to: http://www.ors.act.edu.au/community/working_with_vulnerable_people

Cost: $30 per person with a maximum of $60 per family. This cost will be added to your end of term account.

If you require gear from the outdoor education department, please complete the table below and indicate the number required.

Food Ideas

Remember to pack and repack all foods in unbreakable containers. Use Zip-lock bags and plastic screw tops – no glass.

Saturday Lunch

·       Sandwiches, bread rolls, fruit carried in car cooler

Saturday Dinner

·       This will be cooked on the Trangia, which has 2 cooking pots. It should be light to carry and quick to cook/ prepare.

·       Main Course: pasta with a prepacked sauce to heat and pour over. Parmesan cheese carries well.

·       Desert: plastic container of fruit with custard

Sunday Breakfast

·       Tea/ Coffee/ Hot Chocolate

·       Cereal e.g. porridge/ muesli with brown sugar

·       Pancakes will be provided- please bring your own topping to share

Snacks

·       Jelly beans, dried fruit, muesli bars

Sunday Lunch

·       You can leave this in the cooler in your car. There are electric BBQs at the car park so you can bring sausages and salad if you would like to have a BBQ before departing.

Garbage bags must be brought as part of your gear. We carry all of our rubbish out in double garbage bags.
